Scarborough is a fast-growing little village. Many people have holiday homes in this scenic part of the Cape Peninsula and enjoy the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean and the upspoilt beaches.
Kommetjie is a quiet, rustic village also ont he Atlantic Coast - the name means the "little bowl" - witht he earliest beach house dated from around 1900. The fine melkhout trees, dominant in the area, are protected under the Forestry Act. Kommetjie is a bird-watches paradise. It is the only place on the mainland where four different species of comorant can be seen roosting.
Boating and crayfishing are popular sports in this area as well as surfing off Long Beach and Die Kom. A 45 minute walk along Long Beach will take one to the wreck of the Kakapo, about 100m above the high water mark.
